According to a survey of Ukrainian gardeners, the state of the country's apple orchards is assessed as good.
The gardens did not receive significant damage, since the winter was mild and there were no sharp changes in air temperature. Some respondents said that they were not going to carry out spring processing of trees, experts say, taking into account the monitoring data. On April 2 of this year, in all regions of Ukraine, treatment with preparations containing copper was already carried out in order to prevent scab.
According to gardeners, gardening work was started almost at the same time as last year. Many respondents noted that they observed a slight decrease in the number of fruit buds on trees compared to last record harvest year. But if the weather conditions of the current year are favorable, then there will be no tangible decrease in the yield of fruit trees. This year, the quality of apples may be slightly lower, as some gardeners report a refusal to conduct orchard treatments or substantially cut them. The reason for this situation, respondents called the high cost of drugs in the face of unfavorable market conditions.
It was previously reported that in addition to scab, Ukrainian apple orchards in 2019 are threatened by a monilial burn of flowers and shoots. During the monitoring of gardens in 2018, moniliosis was detected in all regions of Ukraine. The disease reached its greatest development in Donetsk and Volyn regions.
