A Munich court dismissed the complaint of an angry couple who complained about their neighbor’s noisy cow bells.
A couple from Holzkirchen, near Munich, filed a lawsuit for the first time in 2015, and despite their final judicial failure in this matter, they plan to appeal again. In court, the couple said they were worried about the sound of bells and the smell of dung coming from the farm of their neighbor Regina Killer.
During the trial, it was stated that the sound of the bell at the window of the bedroom of the couple exceeded 70 decibels, which corresponds to the sound of a working vacuum cleaner. As a result, the court dismissed the complaint. However, this affair has once again sparked controversy over Bavarian identity, a fiercely patriotic region in southern Germany. One of the leading Bavarian politicians, Ilse Aigner, said that "a cow with a bell is part of our rural lifestyle."
Regina Killer herself told the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper that "this is a matter of our traditions" and "if this continues, this will be the end of Bavaria."This case is similar to last year in the UK, where a resident of West Yorkshire complained to the council members in Leeds that his life was "clouded" because of neighboring "roaring" cows.
