Last year, in Ukraine, cabbage fly populated and damaged the planting of cabbage of all terms by 1-5%. This year there is a high probability of pest development in the country's farms.

Maximum cabbage plants were populated by the pest in Vinnitsa, Volyn, Dnepropetrovsk, Poltava, Cherkasy regions with 1-4 larvae per plant.

No changes in numbers compared to previous years were observed, however, the wintering stock of the pest in the current year did not decrease and amounted to 0.2-2 puparia / 1 m² of soil.

Cabbage fly

Given the level of the wintering supply of cabbage flies, this year it is possible to predict the focal pest development everywhere in Ukraine's industrial and private enterprises.

The activity of the cabbage fly can be reduced by observing crop rotation, agricultural practices, and spatial isolation. For information, cabbage flies are spring and summer. Moreover, summers are descendants of spring ones.

In appearance, these insects are similar to ordinary flies, only lighter and smaller. In addition to cabbage, especially white cabbage, the pest likes to feed on turnips, radishes, radishes, rutabaga. Cabbage fly larvae make their way to the root of the plant or the lower part of the stem, where they gnaw at it. From this, the plant loses turgor, withers and dies.
