USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (USDA) said future joint projects between the US and Pakistan include the use of American soybean feed in Pakistan's poultry, fish farming and dairy industries, introducing GM corn and working with Pakistan's various government departments to develop common standards food safety.
“Soybean from the United States will serve as feedstock for poultry, fish farming and the dairy industry in Pakistan. “We are working with the government and industry not only in the poultry industry, but also in the new and exciting field of fish farming that is under development,” said Casey E. Bean, USDA spokeswoman for the US Embassy in Islamabad.
“Endorsement of genetically engineered corn is currently under consideration in Pakistan. This will give farmers a tool to increase their production and reduce the use of agricultural chemicals, ”said the US representative.According to Bean, the close relations between agricultural scientists of the two countries are especially evident in the collaboration on the development of seeds for wheat, rice, sugarcane and cotton.
The agricultural sector is an extremely important sector in Pakistan and is a priority for the United States. For these reasons, the USDA has opened an office in Islamabad.
