The Kingdom of Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland, after an outbreak in a neighboring South African Republic, on Monday, June 17, banned the import of live pigs from countries that have reported cases of African swine fever (ASF).
The movement of pigs between farms will be strictly controlled, said the Director of the Veterinary and Livestock Services of the Kingdom of Xolani Dlamini.
He also said that a pig identification and tracking system will be introduced in his office.
“Import should be carried out only from slaughterhouses and enterprises located in areas free from ASF, as well as from slaughterhouses from registered and controlled territories free from diseases,” Dlamini said.
The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of South Africa said last month that African swine fever had spread to its fourth province.
