Some breeds are becoming more, and some are on the verge of absolute extinction. In particular, representatives of the red steppe breed are on the threshold of oblivion today. ”

Cows of this species are distinguished by endurance, milk yield (milk fat content of such cows reached 4.5 percent, and milk yield exceeded 5100 kg per cow), unpretentiousness in the diet and in various climatic conditions. Once this cows was almost a symbol of the Stavropol Territory and was in great demand among livestock breeders throughout Russia, but today the number of these cows has reached a critical point of reduction.

“We are doing everything possible to not only preserve the living population, but also to increase it by a factor of ten,” the Stavropol farmers say, having secured material support from the Russian government.
