According to the stories of local farmers, birds “destroy” most of their crops, which is already low due to heavy rains.
Farmers began to deal with harmful parrots by classical methods - firecrackers and loud sounds from the speakers, but this does not scare off addicted parrots to the poppy.
Flocks of birds have been attacking farms since 2015 and, despite all the complaints of agrarian workers, the situation with their “poppy” raids has not changed at all - they ate up to 40 poppies a day, and the most impudent ones are also boxes with poppy seeds they tear off and carry away with them.
And, moreover, even mortal threats of farmers are not afraid of addicted birds.
According to experts, poppy on parrots acts almost like on people strong coffee or green tea. But the main trouble is that the birds from the first "test" become dependent on the poppy.
But in New Zealand last year, the bird of the year selected Kerera - the New Zealand fertile pigeon or, as it is also called there, a drunk pigeon. Such a title, a small bird (from 46 to 50 cm and weighing 650-800 g), the bird, it seems, was awarded for having eaten with fermented fruit, it can behave very comically, including tripping and falling from trees.
