The developers of the Spanish independent institute Agrobot showed the world a unique robot - a smart mechanism equipped with artificial intelligence is programmed to collect strawberries.

According to scientists, this robot can determine the stage of ripeness of berries and calculates the optimal period for harvesting.

During the development of the mechanism, the Institute staff used a three-dimensional scanner equipped with a sensor and special sensors. Sensors using infrared and light waves determine the degree of ripening of strawberries, and more than twenty manipulators carefully grab the berry on the branches and carefully cut it in accordance with the parameters that the owner-farmer will set for the robot.

The processor, on the basis of which the “cyber-assembler” works, is the ultra-modern NVIDIA Jetson. Thanks to this technology, the robot evaluates each berry separately, using the method of semantic segmentation. The basis of this method is neural networks that help the robot process every pixel of the image being read.

“Sometimes it happens that the image of one berry on the sensors of the robot is superimposed on another,” the Spanish developers say. - And while our robot does not always "understand" that one berry is simply hiding behind another. But we are working on it, and very soon our electronic picker will become an indispensable assistant on strawberry plantations. "

When exactly the ultramodern robot will appear on the market and how much it will cost is not known at the moment.
