On the farm, LLC Danube Agrarian from Odessa region began to grow watermelons of an unusual shape. This was announced on his Facebook page by the head Roman Dyazhuk.
According to the farmer, this is the first test batch of square organic berries.
Such products in Ukraine are still out of the ordinary and demand for them is in the process of formation, but domestic restaurants and retail chains are already interested in buying. Designer berries are much more expensive than usual.
By the way, such unusual watermelons have long been grown in Japan. Unusually shaped berries have gained popularity among the local consumer 30 years ago. They are grown on only one island in Japan.
For the season, local craftsmen manage to get only 800 square watermelons. Each berry ripens in a box of plastic or glass, and then is carefully packed. Translated into hryvnia, a square watermelon will cost about 4 thousand.
Earlier it was reported that near Kherson the local farmer Irina Yevtukh grows watermelons of unusual colors. Colored berries are in great demand and, although they are twice as expensive, they are bought right from the field. At another experimental site, Irina grows tomatoes, which also differ in unusual color.
