Specialists explain the decrease in foreign sales of Kazakh wheat by the low quality of the product due to difficult weather conditions, as well as the unfavorable price situation prevailing in the main buyer countries, plus the more expensive logistics.
Over the past few years, the composition of the main foreign buyers of the Kazakh durum has changed. Russia's share in total exports from 67% in the 2013-2014 marketing year decreased to 14% last marketing year, but the shares of Italy and Turkey increased to almost 50% and 24%, respectively, last year.
Also periodically, Kazakh products are purchased by Sweden, Finland, Poland, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan and Tunisia.
It should be noted that durum (durum wheat) is a type of wheat rich in gluten and protein (30-50% more than in other varieties), but it needs to be grown in warm and nutritious soil.
In addition, durum is significantly different in its biochemical and physiological composition. Due to its valuable qualities, as a raw material costs, it is much more expensive than ordinary varieties of flour.
Bulgur, couscous, and hard semolina are produced from durum, but pasta made from durum flour is especially good.
