On a hot summer day, it's nice to relax in the shade of an openwork summer pavilion. These buildings come in various shapes and heights. This article is devoted to the construction of an arbor from a profile pipe with your own hands, it will give step-by-step instructions on how to perform work and recommendations on the choice of materials.
Planning and development of the drawing of the gazebo
Before starting work, the home foreman needs to determine the size of the future structure and its appearance. This largely depends on where the gazebo will be located. It can be made both in the form of a separate pavilion, and adjacent to the house.
After determining the necessary parameters, it is recommended to draw a drawing in which the width, height, and configuration will be taken into account. Thus, you can accurately calculate the amount of materials needed for construction, and prepare an approximate estimate.
The supporting frame of the gazebo is easiest to assemble from profile pipes. They come in rectangular or square sections. The characteristics of this material allow it to be used for the manufacture of various metal structures. Experienced craftsmen claim that it is much better than other types of similar products, such as a corner, round rolling or rods.
Did you know? Summer buildings can be made not only in the form of a capital structure of stone, metal or wood. In tropical countries, their walls are often made of vines, like the wattle traditional for southern Russia, and the roof is made of armfuls of large leaves.
On the Internet you can find many ready-made options for building a gazebo from a professional pipe. Any of them can be taken as a basis for construction or adjusted to the needs of the consumer. After reviewing the examples, and choosing the appropriate option, the home master can begin the construction of the summer pavilion.
Necessary materials and tools
Next, the process of erecting a summer pavilion with a gable roof and an area of 300 × 540 cm will be discussed in detail. It consists of some stages that must be performed sequentially. Before starting work, the preparation of tools and materials should be carried out.
It will be required:
- rectangular and square shaped pipe with a section of 4 × 2 and 4 × 4 cm;
- gravel of medium fraction, river sand and cement;
- apparatus for welding (electric or gas), a pack of electrodes with a cross section of 3 mm;
- grinder, rubber mallet and sledgehammer;
- pegs made of wood for marking, auger for soil;
- water level, cord, square;
- building tape and chalk;
- bitumen, primer, iron brush, paint brush;
- paint for metal surfaces;
- slate, ondulin or polycarbonate for roofing.
Profile pipe selection
This material is very versatile, and is used not only in the case of the manufacture of load-bearing structures (for roofing or awnings), but is also suitable for all other elements of the summer pavilion. From it you can build tables, benches, wall battens.
You can build a gazebo only from two materials: metal profiles and cellular polycarbonate or ondulin for the roof. Additional decorativeness can be achieved by taking pipes with different sections as a basis.
- What are good trade union pipes:
- The strength and lightness of the iron structure, achieved through internal voids.
- They allow uniform loading of the entire frame, including non-metallic elements connected to it.
- Of these, you can quickly and easily build a structure with your own hands.
- Appearance will be much more attractive than products from other types of rental.
- The convenience of fitting and joining places to be joined, which can not be said about rental with a circular cross section.
For the supporting posts of the gazebo, it is best to take a profile with a square section, it is much stronger than a rectangular one. The latter is suitable for side crates, holders for lamps or lanterns, and other decorative elements that are not subjected to serious loads.
Important! The metal profile used under the racks of the summer pavilion must be strong in order to give stability and reliability to the entire structure. Other elements, depending on the functions of the finished product, may be less durable.
During the construction of the summer pavilion, the master will need to be able to handle the power tool, especially such as a grinder, an electric drill. In addition, the skills of the welder will be required, since the main work on the assembly of the frame is carried out using a welding machine. Fixing parts to bolts does not look as beautiful as a neat welding seam.
What type of rental is better to choose for the gazebo:
- Metallic profile - the main consumable, due to the simplicity of the work in such construction, it is used most often. It is better to purchase products with a wall thickness of at least 2 mm. It is also not recommended to buy too thick pipes, usually they are sold not per meter, but at a fixed price for 1 kg, so with the same dimensions they will cost much more.
- In case the master chose for any reason round pipes, then the thickness of their walls should be the same as that of square ones. Keep in mind that they are much more difficult to process (especially during welding). But this material has one indisputable advantage - they are much cheaper than rectangular ones, therefore, having sufficient experience, you can take them to work.
- I must say one more option - using the corner. It is quite possible, but a large thickness of metal is needed, from 2.5 to 3 mm, so the material has a much lower rigidity. Such a frame looks very good, being trimmed with elegant panels.A profile pipe, like a corner, can be made not only of steel, but also of aluminum. When choosing the latest material, the weight of the summer pavilion will significantly decrease, and its cost will increase several times, so the decision is up to the consumer.
Step-by-step construction instructions
As the first stage, the site selected for construction is cleaned, garbage is removed from the surface and the turf is removed.
Place marking:
- To mark the location of the future foundation, it is necessary to drive one of the wooden stakes into the ground.
- Next, you need to measure the length and width of the future building from this point, stick the pegs again and pull the rope between them. The result will be a rectangle where you still need to measure the diagonal lines. If they are equal, this means that the corners are drawn correctly.
- According to the chosen project, the length of the pavilion is 540 cm, the width is 300 cm. The end faces are halved with the help of construction tape and mark this place.
- The length of the back wall is divided into three segments, each of which is equal to 180 cm.
- The facade is the last to be marked: 220 cm are measured from each of the corners (towards the center), and marking pegs are driven in here. The remaining space in the middle is the future doorway.
Did you know? More recently, round tables for arbors have come into fashion, in the center of which there is a hole where a hearth or barbecue is located. This allows vacationers to combine gatherings by the fire and meal.
Foundation
Summer arbor from the profile can be made: rectangular, square, with six or eight corners, as well as round.
The finished metal frame can be installed in two ways:
- Concrete vertically located pipes in the ground, which will be the main supporting posts. Other elements of the pavilion will be fixed precisely on them.
In the absence of a capital foundation, such a structure has stability, but in order to make the floor, the master will have to slightly raise the lower harness above the ground. Most often in such pavilions, instead of the floor, paving slabs are laid.
- Initially, to build a strip or column foundation on the surface of the soil, a solid concrete monolith is also suitable. The frame of the building must be assembled to the side (starting from the uprights and ending with the lower trim), after which it can be fixed in the prepared place. If the foundation is tape / columnar, then the supporting racks of the structure must be installed on them, and only then fastened together (directly on the spot). In the finished form, such a gazebo can be moved only with the help of a special crane.
Both options are good, so it's hard to choose one of them. In the first case, the gazebo will be more reliable and strong, since the support posts are concreted. In addition, this method is cheaper, because it does not provide for the construction of a foundation around the entire perimeter and the lower harness. Among the shortcomings - the lack of gender makes it impossible to use the pavilion in winter.
The main advantage of the gazebo on the foundation is the presence of the floor. It is also good that the inner surface of the pavilion is elevated, albeit not high, and does not allow splashes of dirt to get into the room during bad weather.
Production of a column foundation:
- Under each peg you need to make a half-meter deepening in the ground. It is best to work with a hand drill. At the end of the work, the master will have a dozen identical soil holes.
- A strong square professional pipe (4 × 4 cm) is taken, cut by a grinder into 10 three-meter racks, the lower parts of which need to be lubricated in liquid bitumen (about 1/3).
- After the metal segments dry well, they are lowered into the drilled holes, down with the machined ends, setting exactly in the center.
- Then they need to be hammered with a sledgehammer about 80–90 cm into the ground.
- You should once again check the installation of the pillars for verticality, and, if everything is in order, fill the indentations to the top (1/3 with sand, then with gravel).
- For capital reinforcement, a liquid solution of concrete is poured over the rubble, several times a piercing is pierced with a thin iron probe in order to release air, it is leveled and left to solidify.
Bottom harness
To do this, you need to take: 6 metal sections of 3 m each from a profile with a cross section of 4 × 4 cm, 4 thinner sections from a pipe 4 × 2 cm, each 540 cm long. soil. Exactly the same actions are carried out on the upper edge of the supporting racks.
Since the poles are at the same height, there will be no problems with the placement of side pipes and welding. Before starting this stage of work, it is recommended to mark out using construction tape and chalk, which will greatly facilitate the work of the master. After the completion of the upper strapping, it is necessary to lay two pipes across the structure, they will serve as a rigid bundle. Only after this can you start collecting the roof of the gazebo.
Assembly and installation of the frame
Most often, steel parts are connected into a single structure by weldingThat allows you to carry out work quickly and get a good result. But it should be borne in mind that sometimes there is a need to disassemble the open summer pavilion, and after a while to reassemble it. The need is due to the fact that in the winter, the summer cottage remains unprotected for a long time, and such an amount of metal can be stolen.
It’s safer for the winter to disassemble the gazebo for details and hide it under lock and key until spring. In this case, the finished product should consist of modules, each of which is assembled by welding, but to connect the frame to the whole, the master will have to use bolts and nuts.
Usually similar collapsible houses are a combination of a metal openwork tent and a roof. They can be quickly mounted and also, without unnecessary time costs, disconnected into individual parts. It should be noted that each face of a collapsible pavilion should consist of a separate block. For example, a rectangular gazebo is made up of four separate parts (at an octagonal tent of eight), which are connected to each other by iron jumpers.
Floor laying
The easiest option for this project will be laying paving slabs. But if the owner of the site wants, then he can make the floor of the boards or make a screed of liquid cement.
Since the turf was removed at the first stage of work, the foreman remains to level the soil well and to conduct its compaction. You should get a flat horizontal platform with a slope of one or two degrees towards the exit (to drain unwanted moisture). It is recommended to check it with a water level. By adjusting this indicator, you can remove the excess soil in one place and add in another.
Important! To align fragments of the tile floor and reduce the space between the seams, a rubber hammer is used. Finished areas of the coating are periodically checked by the water level.
The prepared surface is poured with sand, which layer cannot be less than 1 cm. A shallow (10–15 cm) ditch is dug along the perimeter of the garden pavilion and side curbs are installed in it. Following this, they begin to lay a layer of paving slabs on a sandy "pillow".
At the end of the tile installation, about half a bucket of fine river sand, previously sifted through a sieve, is poured onto the floor. Wielding a broom, they fill the cavities in the seams with it, after which they abundantly moisten with water from the spray gun. Unused sand grains are swept over the threshold.
Roof manufacturing
According to this project, the roof frame will include: two side slopes, a base and lintels. Work is carried out with a profile pipe with a section of 2 × 4 cm. But the material should be pre-cut: into 8 segments of 200 cm, 4 - by 300 cm and 3 - by 540 cm.
Process description:
- A rectangle is fully assembled from the blanks by welding, which fully corresponds to the dimensions of the gazebo design.
- Two metal segments 200 cm long are welded to each of its side ends, and they should be tilted so that the gable roof forms.
- It is also important that each of the four pipe pieces protrudes 5 cm below the junction with the rectangle. Identically located (at regular intervals) on the roof frame and the remaining 6 pieces of the profile are fixed.
- To strengthen the roof ridge, one of the long parts (540 cm) is welded along it, and the remaining two are on the bottom of the roof slope.
- The roof is assembled on the ground, after it is ready, it must be raised and installed on the top of the gazebo, on top of the harness. This work is done with several helpers. The last step in the assembly of the roof is its fixing by spot welding at the upper corners of the frame. These areas are thoroughly cleaned with a metal brush before painting. The finished structure is covered with a primer, and later - paint for the street.
- As a roof, the owner of the garden site can choose any material that he likes: cellular or monolithic polycarbonate, slate, ondulin. A sheet of material is cut to the size of the roof slope, lifted up and laid on the frame, after which it is fixed on self-tapping screws.
Wall cladding
The owner of the site may not bother, and leave the arbor as is. But for decoration, you can close its side openings with linen or chintz curtains and hide people resting in it from the hot sun and prying eyes. It is also advisable to place decorative lattices of metal or wood on the side walls, which will add attractiveness to the garden room.
Instead of curtains or curly grilles, you can install side panels of colored or transparent polycarbonate. Any option for decoration depends only on the imagination and financial capabilities of the home master.
Did you know? Perennial climbing plants, such as weaving roses, kampsis or clematis, are commonly planted next to gazebos. Their stems tightly braid the building, bringing coolness, and flowers and leaves give additional decorativeness.
Decoration of the building
Also, it is advisable to equip the garden pavilion with barbecue or barbecue stove, a comfortable table and several benches. It is necessary to conduct electricity inside and install street floor lamps on the sides of the entrance. If space permits, install a rocking chair for afternoon relaxation or reading. It is advisable to provide for the presence of several decorative pillows and a cozy, soft blanket.
The construction of an open gazebo for a summer cottage is not too difficult task even for an inexperienced home master. Especially if before the start of work all the necessary materials were carefully prepared and their quantity calculated. Such a construction will serve the owners of the garden plot for many years.
