To settle the Teterev River with new underwater inhabitants, 300 kg of grass carp and 1600 kg of silver carp came from the Kiev region.
The stocking of the Zhytomyr reservoir was carried out due to the existing scientific and biological justification. It has been specifically designed to help cleanse water bodies from excessively overgrown plants.
The total number of neglected fish in the Zhytomyr reservoir is 2 tons. This is grass carp and silver carp. Fish came from the economy of Skvirsky district of Kiev region. They have all the documents, in particular a check by the veterinary service confirming the health of the fish. 50 thousand UAH were spent on its purchase, says Alexander Gontar, head of the Zhytomyr fish protection patrol.
In recent years, the Zhytomyr region has suffered from mass death of fish. Fish Protection Patrol ordered a scientific justification at the Ukrryba Institute. In it, scientists informed that the fish die due to the multiplication of algae in water at high temperatures. In order for aquatic biological resources to maintain vital activity, it is necessary to populate reservoirs with herbivorous fish. The institute’s specialists calculated the required number and types of herbivorous fish that were launched into the Teterev river, said Lyudmila Grebenchuk, head of the ichthyology department of the Zhytomyr fish conservation patrol.
