Retail outlets in Ukraine began to refuse to purchase large quantities of cucumbers. The sales of vegetables to wholesale companies have also slowed, the analysts of the Ukrainian Fruit and Vegetable Association (UPAA) said.
Due to the warm weather in most of Ukraine, the selection of cucumbers in greenhouses is increasing more and more, as a result, the supply on the market is growing. This negatively affects the pricing in the segment, reducing the cost of cucumbers. Last week, cucumbers were sold at a price of at least 57 UAH / kg, which is equivalent to $ 2.12 / kg.
And today for a vegetable, depending on the variety, they ask from 50 to 59 UAH / kg, which is $ 1.86-2.19 / kg. Sellers are ready to give cucumbers of lower quality with a short shelf life at a price of 45 UAH / kg, which is $ 1.67 / kg.Despite the fall in prices, the cost of cucumbers today is two times higher than it was at the end of March 2018.
For information, similar processes with a decrease in prices for domestic indoor cucumbers occur in Russia. Due to the large sample sizes of vegetables from greenhouses, prices are falling more and more against the background of rather low consumer demand. Currently, "prickly" cucumbers in Russia can be bought at a price of 90-140 rubles / kg or $ 1.40-2.18 / kg. Smooth cucumbers are sold at a price of 65-90 rubles / kg ($ 1.01-1.40 / kg).
