US Trade Representative Robert Lighthouse and US Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Purdue announced on April 18 that the governments of Tunisia and the United States finalized US export certificates to allow the import of beef, poultry, and egg products from the United States to Tunisia.
This statement was made following a meeting between US and Tunisian officials on the safety and usefulness of American beef, poultry and egg products.
“President Trump continues to give priority to opening up new markets for American agricultural products, and we welcome Tunisia’s agreement to start importing American beef, poultry and egg products,” said Robert Lighthizer and continued: “Greater access to the Tunisian market is an important step to provide opportunities for American farmers and ranchers to continue expanding their exports of American agricultural products. ”Last year, agricultural exports from the United States to Tunisia exceeded $ 264 million. More than 90 percent of exports were corn, soybeans, or corn and soy products.
The initial plans under the current agreement are that Tunisia will annually import from the United States of America beef, poultry and egg products in the amount of $ 5-10 million, followed by additional growth.
