According to data from the beginning of March this year, prices for live bait pigs in Ukraine remained within the range of the previous week, analysts of the Ukrainian Pig Breeders Association reported.

The vast majority of pork producers sold pigs at a price of 39.5-41 UAH / kg, as last week. The cost of live pigs fluctuated slightly both upward and downward by 25-50 cents. The average market indicator of the 10th week of the year almost coincided with the data from the end of winter.

Leading market operators predict a slight decline in prices for live bait pigs in the second half of March. The decrease in consumer activity in the field of animal husbandry will be associated with the beginning of Lent, this will be especially noticeable in the western regions of Ukraine. Next week, the price of live pigs will fall to 39-40.5 UAH / kg, analysts conclude after a survey of members of the Association of the Meat Industry.

Recall that the number of cattle and pigs in Ukraine continues to decline. Farmers call their cultivation very difficult and unprofitable due to large financial investments and frequent outbreaks of diseases such as ASF. Small farms, which turn out to be completely defenseless against the disease, suffer most from African swine fever.
