Horticulture in Ukraine has reached a level where its further development is possible only with the availability of labor. This became the reason for the suspension of the expansion of the berry area, according to the statement of the deputy director of the Vinnitsasadvinprom corporation Sergey Boychuk.
Currently, the area of berry-growing in Ukraine is not growing, due to the lack of working hands. Even if the cost of berries increases, there is still no one to process the berries.
The same reason is a limiting factor for the increase in the area of orchards. Rural residents are massively sent to work abroad, said Sergey Boychuk.
The Ukrainian market is part of the open labor market of the European Union, and people are looking for where better. But the corporation is confident that you can earn at home. According to Sergey Boychuk, in the gardens of Poland, the average income is 14-16 thousand UAH. per month.
Moreover, people work from 7 a.m. to 19. In Vinnytsia gardens, work starts at 9 and ends at 5 p.m. During harvesting, workers receive more than 10 thousand. At the same time, people do not spend money on travel, housing and food. In the Vinnitsa farm during the harvesting of apples, on average, they earn 500 UAH. in a day.
Now a large number of companies live by campaigning for people to go to work, promising golden mountains. If they worked in the Ukrainian gardens as they did in the Polish ones, they could have earned no less, said Sergey Petrovich.
The first consequences of a shortage of workers are now noticeable. The farms of the corporation are cutting back on those industrial orchards that were created to produce apples for processing. They are not so cost-effective. It is noteworthy that it is difficult to agree with processing companies on a stable and balanced price for non-varietal apples.
If in 2017 they were purchased at 8 UAH / kg., Then in 2018 - at 1 UAH. The corporation noticed that juice prices do not jump.
