High yield of buckwheat in Russian fields this year provoked a collapse in the price of buckwheat in the world market. Lithuanian farmers were especially excited.
Lithuanian farmers, whose main income is growing and selling buckwheat, are worried that importing cheap Russian cereals into the local market will bankrupt them.
“In Russia this year, the yield has broken records in recent years, it is three times higher than last year,” Lithuanian farmers are worried. “And this greatly influenced the purchase prices in our country!”
Lithuanian Customs released data on the volume of imports of buckwheat from Russia this year.

“In 2017, the yield of buckwheat in our country amounted to a little more than 53 thousand tons. This year, indicators fell to 49 thousand tons, Lithuanian agricultural analysts say. - Last year, Russian importers brought to us 14.3 thousand tons of buckwheat. In 2016, the figure was even less - a little more than eight and a half thousand tons. Now, there is a trend of steady import growth. ”
